Hi,

Could you explain the set-up you've built ?
Connectivity to the AM + software you've used ?

There is no "Rugrat" on this forum so I don't know what you're referring to ?

Finally, the solution developped by "Razmoket" is rock solid and never fails.

Hi,

First of all, sorry about the mixup about 'rugrat'
I've read a lot of forums the last few days, so I guess I got confused....

About my setup:

I use a gardena R160 ( same as the 220ac )
So far I've tried an ESP8266 and ESP32 with 2 different software solutions.
1st one is the AMconnect
2nd one is Tasmota.

As long the mower is running, it works great.
When the mower docks, connection is lost and i get a timeout on my MQTT broker.
Software will not recover when this happens.
My guess was a voltage spike when charging starts, so I added a DC/DC converter on the 18 volt rail to get 5Volts all the time, even when the mower is OFF. This was not a solution. Still crashes when docking.
THEN I decided to add a dedicated battery, just for the ESP8266. So the only connections to the main board are: GND,TX and RX.
Again works great when mowing, but crash on docking.
I also disconnected the TX and RX, but still it crashes.
My final try will be adding a capacitor over the charging contacts to eliminate interference due to sparks......

I sure hope to figure this out, because I do not think I am alone in this.

I do believe that you're alone on this ! Unfortunately.
No one works with those developments anymore.

ESP's are extremely sensitive to voltage regulation.
A capacitor is the first line of defense.
But in my case I'm directly connected to the internal white connector without any capacitor, filter or DC/DC converter.

Razmoket wrote his code himself and did include routines to monitor the ESP status, recover the MQTT connectivity, etc....
In my opinion you would need to secure your software by adding those too....

It never failed in 5 years and I had the chance to test my own hardware and the one Razmoket developped (on a real neat PCB).
Here under my "breadboard" version :-)...still working for all that time.

Merci,

Ok, let's assume I'll buy the awesome project you guys made.
And let's assume my problems are gone after.....
I would go NUTS not knowing what the problem was.

This afternoon I dug up my old ESP01 like you guys use, flashed it, and it crashed.
So it's not the board problem.....And I do not believe it's the At tiny you're using to filter illegal commands.

That said......Do I need to contact you by PM to get the info?

Regards, Henk

Are you able to simulate that crash ?

When (re)booting the ESP always sends out data (abd that's also the danger of not filtering out that data).
It would be great if you could check the info sent to the TX pin. From boot to crash to...no recover ?

I see no reason why the ESP would not recover but...that should show you what happens.

For "G2 connect" please contact Razmoket by PM.

PS: and what if...you remove the GPS chip (if any) ?

Yes I am. everytime the damn thing docks it will crash :)

It would be funny to see me running after the mower with my laptop connected to it, but it can be done

I see no reason why the ESP would not recover but...that should show you what happens.

And that my friend is the big question: What is going on?

For "G2 connect" please contact Razmoket by PM.

I will, thanks

In this setup no GPS, but I had it on there yesterday with other software. (worked great BTW, until it crashed of course)

Bojour :)

Problem solved.
I am so stupid!
The crashing was something else......
The ESP8266 just lost connection, that's all.
I use Unify accesspoints and the unify software reported the ESP as connected with an excellent signal.
However, my garage is made of concrete bricks I had laying around, and the backside of the garage pointing to the AP was concrete also.
I removed some of the bricks and the connection stays up now!
So the line of sight to the AP was blocked just enough to introduce little connection problems.
I will replace the backside with a wooden door and expect to be problem free from there on.

Why the ESP did not connect to MQTT after a disconnect is beyond me, but after this week of trouble i cannot be bothered to examine further.
And the weather here in Holland will be very nice tomorrow, so the sheep has to make his rounds!

Lastly I want to thank you for thinking with me . I respect that a lot.

Have a nice weekend!

Salut, Henk
